Created in 2002 by initiative of the Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) (Pedro Nunes Institute) and the University of Coimbra, the IPN-Incubator - Associação para o Desenvolvimento de Atividades de Incubação de Ideias e Empresas (Association for the Development of Activities for the Incubation of Ideas and Companies) it is a non-profit private institution, in a partnership with the Polytechnic of Coimbra.

The Incubator provides support in the early stage of new innovative business and/or technological projects as well as advanced services projects. Among others, the priority projects are startups that ensure a strong connection to the university milieu, either through students, teachers or projects of research in laboratories, as well as projects from the private sector and RDT in consortium with the industry.

In the IPN company incubator, companies dispose, in their early stages, of conditions that facilitate access to the scientific and technological system and an environment that provides knowledge broadening in such matters as quality, management, marketing and contact with national and international markets.
