The Escola Superior de Tecnologia da Saúde de Coimbra (Coimbra Health School) (ESTeSC), currently a part of the Polytechnic of Coimbra, with a rolling path starting in June, 1961, at the Centros de Preparação de Técnicos e Auxiliares dos Serviços Clínicos, later Centros de Formação de Técnicos Auxiliares dos Serviços Complementares de Diagnóstico e Terapêutica. In 1982, after a new restructure, the Escola Técnica dos Serviços de Saúde de Coimbra was created and later incorporated in the Polytechnic Higher Education system in 1993, with the current designation.

ESTeSC offers nine Bachelor's degrees, eight in the area of health technologies and corresponding Master’s Degree, allowing the student to continue the studies. The relevance of programmes at a social and local level, together with a quality academic staff who meets the required specificity of the programmes, is one of the School’s added value.

ESTeSC is currently one of the largest and most dynamic higher education health schools in the country, equipped with state-of-the-art technology (own property or training partners’), 18 laboratories in one common area, promoting knowledge share and offering excellent work conditions for students and researchers.

This school focus on a strong connection to the community promoting several cultural and scientific initiatives and establishing protocols and partnerships with national and international institutions, in the education, health and research fields. Internationalisation is also one of its strengths, offering a third of its students the possibility to take up work placements in a European country (Erasmus+), or Brazil.

Its significant and daily work on environmental sustainability awarded the school with the first green flag for a European higher education eco-school.
