Teaching Methodologies
Fundamental theoretical knowledge is transmitted through brief exposition periods with discussion. The application of those theoretical concepts is carried out by means of field (abiotic characterization, inventory, sampling, ), laboratorial (identification, ) and/or practical work (indices calculation, ), with bibliographic colsultation and individual study.
Learning Results
(1) evaluate the risks and the potentialities associated to terrestrial and aquatic continental ecosystems;
(2) diagnose and identify the causes of the ecological state of these ecosystems;
(3) implement mitigation and/or recovery measures in order to preserve and promote the sustainable management of terrestrial and aquatic continental ecosystems.
Program
1.Terrestrial ecosystems: fundamentals of phytosociology and taxonomy of terrestrial habitats; sustainable uses of natural and seminatural ecosystems; 2.Temporal and spatial dynamics: ecological succession, biotic and abiotic evolution- notions of vegetation series, phytogeography and biogeography;
3.Freshwater ecosystems: the importance of water and of aquatic ecosystems; 4.The river and the drainage basin; 5.River dynamics and flow regimes; 6.River ecology and riparian area; 7.Causes and effects of anthropic perturbation on terrestrial vegetation and on freshwater ecosystems and solutions for their ecological recovery.
