Base Knowledge

Geography, use of computer equipments and software, and familiarity with the use of internet tools for searching and learning.

Teaching Methodologies

Theoretical/practical lectures including a set of practical assignments for training and knowledge acquisition. The evaluation Module 1 has a weight of 60% and the evaluation is made with a theoretical/practical test, module 2 has a weight of 40%, and the evaluation is performed by a project presentation and discussion, or through theoretical/practical examination. The lectures should be located on the geomatics lab.
Tutorials for continuous learning, and support on software training for exercise practice and exams..

Learning Results

1 – Master the concepts and principles of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and recognizes its role as a tool to support decision making in land management;
2 – Master the Remote Sensing (RS) methods of information analysis and processing;
3 – Uses the available tools and techniques (GIS and RS) in practical work and in a project development.

Program

The acquisition of skills in Module 1 (M1) can be obtained through the following learning outcomes:
a) Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems principles, and master of GIS data analysis methods,
b) knowledge of concepts necessary for georeferencing data and digital maps production,
c) GIS integration and analysis of information obtained from different sources,
d) knowledge of the concepts needed for processing and classification of remotely sensed images,
e) processing, analysis and classification of remotely sensed images,
f) thematic mapping production using remotely sensed images.
The acquisition of skills in Module 2 can be obtained from:
g) development of analysis models for practical problems in environmental and natural resources management;
h) practical exercises development to analyze a problem in environmental and natural resources management;
i) pratical application of skills in simulated exercises for continuous evaluation and exam.
