Learning Results

At the end the students should identify the main types of industrial facilities and be aware of the characterization and selection of the most usual equipments and systems in the process industry. The students must be acquainted of occupational safety techniques, procedures and management systems, as well as of environmental management systems and certification process. Generally speaking, it is intended to develop self learning skills, use of acquired knowledge for solving new problems and data search and analysis skills. With the presentation and discussion of performed works, it is intended to develop relational and communication abilities.

Program

1. Industrial Facilities: types; layouts and licensing.
2.Boilers and Thermal Fluids: Characterization of boilers; Thermal fluids; Steam systems; fuels; chimneys draught and fans.
3.Refrigeration and Cooling: Refrigeration equipments; water cooling towers.
4. Compressed Air and Vacuum: Compressors, Vacuum Pumps and Distribution systems
5.Handling, Packaging, Storage systems
6. HVAC and dust collection systems: indoor air quality, air handling units and dust collection systems..
7. Plans for prevention and security; collective and individual protection techniques, MSDS, Personal Protective Equipments; Fire safety plans, equipments and procedures.
8.Environmental Management: Problems : Air and air pollution; water and wastewater, Environmental Management Systems (EMS), Certification ISO14001vsEMAS
