Teaching Methodologies

About the different contents, active teaching-learning techniques will be stimulated. Support materials on each topic will be provided and information sources will be indicated to help students search for information for the different exercises performed. World maps, travel guides and travel literature will be analyzed and discussed in classes. Group works will be prepared by the students, encouraging their self-training in the various domains that include the analysis of international tourism and cooperation for development.
Approval in the course is obtained with a minimum classification of 10 values. The student can choose between a final exam or continuous assessment.
The exam consists on a single individual test (100%).
Continuous assessment results from the following parameters:
a) Theoretical test (50%)
b) Group work (30%)
c) Participation and exercises developed and presented in classes, attendance and punctuality (20%)

Learning Results

It is intended that students consolidate knowledge about tourism on a global scale in a context of education for development, identifying relevant and diverse sources of information in different domains of international tourism analysis. By analyzing the impacts of different issues and global problems on tourism development, and vice versa, it is intended that they acquire awareness and understanding of the challenges to development in different parts of the world. In this context, they will get notion of the potential of tourism to fight poverty and social inequalities. It is, therefore, essential to identify the main characteristics of developing countries that can determine the success of tourism development projects, acquiring skills that allow them to act properly in these contexts, while encouraging students to have an active and responsible citizenship.
