Teaching Methodologies
The following teaching methodologies are used in this curricular unit: interpretation and analysis of the legal provisions and exposure of contents by the teacher and its discussion with the students; resolution of practical real case studies and court decisions by the students.
Learning Results
At the end of the course unit the student is expected to be able to:
a) Distinguish spatial planning programs from urban plans.
b) Identify the function and the scope of the various types of territorial management instruments in force and the essential stages of their elaboration process.
c) Know the main rules of occupation, use and transformation of land that characterize the Urban Planning Law in Portugal.
d) recognize norms of urban plans regarding its own execution.
e) Know and identify the special administrative procedures aimed at the prior control of the legality of urban operations.

- Notions and objects of spatial planning law, urban planning law and environmental law
- The territorial management system.
- The legal regime of territorial management instruments: classification, content, functions and procedure for drafting or reviewing territorial development instruments and territorial planning instruments.
- The public participation of individuals in urban planning.
- Instruments for implementing urban plans.
