Teaching Methodologies
Classes assume a dynamic character, characteristic of laboratory practice, and aim to combine the presentation of concepts/information with practical exercises in database construction and data analysis using the SPSS software; and the combination of presentation of concepts/information related to the qualitative approach, with practical exercises for the preparation and analysis of qualitative data using the computer.
The evaluation is continuous and derives from carrying out an individual work of construction and analysis of an SPSS database and report (50.0%); carrying out an individual job of content analysis of qualitative data (50.0%).
Assessment by Exam consists of carrying out a practical test consisting of a component of qualitative data analysis (50%) and another component of quantitative data analysis (50%).
Learning Results
At the end of this UC, students should be able to:
1. Process and quantitatively analyze the data, using specific software (SPSS):
– Master the techniques of building a database in SPSS;
– Master basic knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics;
– Make statistical decisions based on the statistical decision tree;
– Choose and apply different statistical techniques using the software.
2. Process and qualitatively analyze data, using the computer:
– Know the assumptions and procedures of content analysis.
– Master the process, techniques, and main tools for collecting and preparing qualitative data.
– Categorize, group, relate, and question qualitative data.
3. Interpret the information collected and communicate research results.
