Bachelor in Biodiversity and Conservation of Nature

Course Objectives

Training professionals capable of analyzing and act on the territory to implement viable and sustainable management of Biodiversity, promoting sustainable development and Nature Conservation.
The proposed study plan is diverse and comprehensive, promotes and stimulates autonomy, the creative thinking, and provides students with a broad perspective of Biodiversity, of the territory and his relation with society, as a way of simultaneously contribute for Nature Conservation and National Economical Development, with relevance to the more than 20% of the National Territory covered by Classified Areas.
The curricular structure deepens professional culture, enhances argumentation skills, stimulates team work skills and creativity, within integrative courses where knowledge is applied to solve real-life problems. The optional units and the training period contribute to the course flexibility, allowing its adaptability to the labor market needs and responding to students’ expectations.

Access Conditions

General access regime: – one of the following exams: – 02 Biology and Geology; 07 Physics and Chemistry; 16 Mathematics.
Special accesses: transfer, change of course, proof for people over 23, holders of diplomas of Technological Specialization Course, holders of diploma of Professional Technical Higher Course.

Organizations and entities related to the maintenance of Biodiversity and the Conservation of Nature. Higher Technician in liberal profession, State Entities, Associations of Hunting and Fishing, NGOs of Environment and Nature; Entrepreneur in the area of Biodiversity and Nature Conservation, Nature Tourism, Bioengineering and other activities that require the competences of the profile of the Bachelor in Biodiversity and Nature Conservation of the Coimbra College of Agriculture.

Learning Objectives

The Bachelors in Biodiversity and Nature Conservation will have acquired:
a) Scientific culture to understand the interrelations of Biodiversity, Nature Conservation, and their role in promoting the National Development;
b) Technological culture enabling them to intervene, being able to analyze, forecast, and simulate the consequences of their actions and management options, in projects implementation and monitoring;
c) Integrative reference culture and regulating their future professional activity as development agent;
d) Social, ethical and professional awareness and a neat sense of their role in the social, technical, economical dynamics, on Biodiversity and Nature Conservation as support of sustainable development;
e) Communication skills to be able of being an efficient transmitter of knowledge, promoter of participation and information sharing related to Biodiversity and Nature Conservation.

Access to Superior Studies

The bachelor’s degree allows the access to graduate degrees, namely to the 2nd cycle of studies leading to the Master’s degree.
