Organizational Communication Degree (post-labour regime)

Course Objectives

The program’s mission is the training of quality professionals, able to become actively involved in the labor market and provide service in the field of Organizational Communication, Public Relations, Marketing Communications and Market Research and Opinion, with skills that enable the performance of several professional activities. Being a polytechnic program, the philosophy and structure of the curriculum combines the goals: a) articulate a solid background in the general area of Social and Behavioral Sciences and specific areas of Social Psychology, Communication Sciences, Organizational Communication and Public Relations, Marketing Communication, organizational Science and Research Methods b) articulate a scientific training to technical training associated with the domain expertise and operational know-how c) articulate with the labor market and contribute to the innovation and development of professional practices.

Access Conditions

Access to the course is through the following schemes:
a) National Acess Application (for candidates with a course of secondary education or equivalent degree);
b ) Special Applications (for candidates who fulfill the conditions issued in Decree 393 -A / 99 of 2 October);
c ) Special Applications (for candidates with: Above 23 years old candidates Evidences, college graduates and Technological specialization courses – CET);
d ) Change of Degree/Institution.

The specific evidence required for access to the degree are one of the following:

Learning Objectives

The process of adjusting the degree of Organizational Communication begun with the separation of skills set out in Article 5 of Decree-Law n º 74/2006 of 24 March, in order to define, for all the skills presented in the legislation, its specification for the profile defined for this degree.
In addition to the skills set out in Article 5 of Decree-Law n º 74/2006 of 24 March, this work also considered the competencies defined by the Dublin Descriptors and Tunning project.
The course is organized into four components: a component of Theoretical Foundation, which includes eight courses totalizing 42 credits ECTS (23.3%), the Component of Specific Domain Techniques, composed of 15 or 16 courses in each one of the alternative paths, corresponding to 75 ECTS credits (41.7%), the Component of Professional Integration with 6 courses in each optional path (one being an internship with 30 ECTS), for a total of 45 ECTS credits ( 25.0%), and Component of General Training, grouping 5 or 6 courses (depending on the options of students), a total of 18 ECTS credits (10%). As it turns out, this curriculum emphasizes the mastery of specific technical and Professional Integration which together represent 66.7% of total ECTS of the Degree, ensuring students a significant practical component that conforms to vocational training objectives assigned to the polytechnic.
At the adjustment of the program to the Bologna Process were defined skills, disciplinary knowledge and professional knowledge for each of the units, ensuring the link between these and the achievement of the objectives for the course according to the desired output profile for graduates. This is a reference for the elaboration of programs and guides annually, defining the modalities of assessment of skills and the organization of work applied in different c.u., and sometimes adding valences of two or more course units, and is present in the analysis the learning achievements of students and meet program schedule. This ensures the maintenance of a matrix and consistent training in line with achieving the objectives set for the course and for the School / Polytechnic Institute.
Every semester, the different scientific areas of ESEC responsible for teaching courses analyze compliance of programs as well as academic success obtained. These data allow for better monitoring and possible corrective action, where barriers to evidencing compliance with defined learning objectives for the course. At the end of the internship, the Center for Internships and Career sends a survey to organizations that hosted the students, to verify compliance with the internship and student performance.

Access to Superior Studies

The Diploma in Organizational Communication (After work) grants qualification to continue studies in a Master Degree.
