Teaching Methodologies

Teaching methodologies take an active character, participatory and dynamic, integrating a combination of theoretical presentations with practical exposure and analysis of clinical cases, debates, research, and other diversified activities.
Students can opt for continuous assessment and evaluation for final examination.
Continuous assessment consists of two time points: written paper (group work) (50%) and the completion of a written test (50%).
Evaluation by exam consists of a written test that includes both a theoretical part (50%) and a practical part (50%).

Learning Results

1. Identify deviations to normal psychological ageing within the scope of mental assessment.
2. Identify the preventive aspects of the disease.
3. Know the mental pathologies of the older person as well as its specificities and atypical manifestations

1. Evaluation of mental state of the elderly: normal and pathological ageing.
2. Neurocognitive disorders in the elderly: assessment and intervention.
3. Disorders of anxiety in the elderly: assessment and intervention.
4. Mood disorders: specificities and atypical manifestations in the elderly.
5. Sleep disorders: evaluation and pharmacological and non-pharmacological intervention.
6. Late-onset psychosis: differential diagnosis and clinical presentations.
7. Physical Illness associated with Psychiatry – Delirium.
8. Legal Aspects:

8.1. Abuse and neglect;

8.2. Decisiveness and testamentary.
