Knowledge of financial mathematics

The following teaching methodologies are used in this curricular unit:

 1) Verbal methods (say), making use of the following educational resources: Exposition, Explanation and Dialogue;

2) Intuitive Methodologies (show), making use of the following educational resources: Demo, Audiovisual Texts and Writings;

 3) Active methodologies (do), making use of the following educational resources: Group Work, Case Studies

This course aims to present the objectives of the financial function, in the short, medium and long term. We will analyze the financing instruments available to enterprises, some short-term investments of cash surpluses and the most significant aspects of working capital management. A medium and long term, will address financial planning and structural implications of financial decisions such as capital structure and dividend policy.

1. The financial function in organizations: The role of the financial function and financial manager

 2. Fundamental notions of Financial Calculus: update and capitalization of capital.

 3. Sources of corporate financing

 3.1. Financing instruments in debt capital – short term;

 3.2. Financing instruments in debt capital – Medium and long term;

 3.3. Equity financing.

 4. Structural financial decisions

 4.1. Capital Structure

 4.2. Dividend policy
