Teaching Methodologies

The course will be taught in practical-theoretical lessons, based on the presentation and discussion of models of music theory, analysis, transcription and execution of auditory examples that can be presented, particularly in the form of musical scores and audio examples.

Continuous evaluation:
Quality of participation in class: 20%
Written Assessments: 40%
Oral assessments: 40%

Assessment by exam:
Written exam – 50%
Oral exam – 50%

Learning Results

1. To consolidate and standardize previously acquired knowledge in Musical Trainning 1 and 2;
2. To understand and to know how to use musical codes;
3. To understand and to know how to apply the principles of music theory;
4. To understand, analyse and perceave musical phenomena;
5. To read, recognize, write, transcribe and sing or play a musical score;
6. To develop auditory sensory skills in rhythmic, melodic and timbric areas;
7. To recognize and relate harmonic structures to melodic ones;
8. To identify harmonic sequences in a modulation context;
9. To accomplish formal analysis.

Program

Processes of writing and transcription from recorded musical material
1. Melody:
1.1. Modal sonorous organizations: Greek and gregorianos modes.
2. Rhythm:
2.1. Irregular rhythms (continuation and magnifying)
3. Harmony:
3.1. Introduction to the alphabetical cipher;
3.2. Chords of 6ª, 4ª e 9ª;
3.3. Diatonic Modulation;
4. Form:
4.1. Main forms: binary, ternary, minueto and trio, rondó, variation and “basso ostinato”, Sonata.
5. Colour-Tone:
5.1. Hearing training of “combo” instrumental (guitar, bass, keyboard, drums…)
