OBJECTIVES

To provide a holistic and up-to-date understanding of Information and Communication Technologies from a management perspective.

To highlight the role of Information and Communication Technologies in the formation of strategies, in supporting decision-making and in improving the effectiveness and efficiency of processes.

To identify how Information Management can serve as a basis for the construction of strategies.

SKILLS

This curricular unit aims mainly to transmit specific knowledge in the area of ​​information processing, in relation to the locations of infrastructures, buildings, urban areas and residential areas.

Communication is also fundamental for Emergency Management, so knowledge of the various methods available is essential for Civil Protection Technicians. In addition, this curricular unit also contributes to most of the general knowledge, skills and attitudes that students are expected to acquire in this Higher Professional Technician in Civil Protection course.

• Specific means and techniques of communication in different institutional contexts;

• Collection, manipulation, transfer and storage of information relevant to emergency intervention;

• Transport and communications systems, their elements and stakeholders;

• The emergency intervention system: planning and implementation, in the context of transport;

• Emergency communication: technologies and networks, in different institutional contexts;

• Communication media and their use in emergency situations, in different institutional contexts.

The assessment of the curricular unit consists of two parts:

1) Final exam, with a weight of 10/20 points.

2) Written reports of two works (to be submitted on a date to be defined) and their respective presentation and discussion, with a weight of (10)/20 points. The two works correspond to:

- Work on transferring geographic information on a military map to the Autocad environment;

- Work on watch posts, fuel management strips, location of dams for water storage.
