Teaching Methodologies
Theoretical-practical classes where concepts are explained and exemplified, followed by their application in solving problems of increasing
complexity in the different areas of sustainable city management, using Microsoft Excel software.
Learning Results
– Understand and use the main features of a spreadsheet;
– Add new functions and automate repetitive tasks using programming;
– Model, summarize, analyze and present quantitative data of interest to the sustainable management of cities.
Program
1. Introduction to Microsoft Excel.
2. Using formulas and functions: to perform common mathematical operations; to convert units; to manipulate text; to manipulate dates and
times; to perform conditional analysis; to perform matches and searches; with tables and conditional formatting.
3. Build and customize different types of graphs and other forms of visualization.
4. Managing and analyzing data: importing and cleaning data; summarizing data with Pivot Tables and Pivot Charts; sorting and filtering;
performing What-If analyses; analyzing data using Goal Seeking; applying Solver to solve simple optimization problems.
5. Excel automation: recording and editing macros; programming simple function and command macros in the Visual Basic for Applications
(VBA) language; the concept of variables and variable types; repetition and conditional structures; designing and implementing algorithms
to solve simple problems.
