National Plan for Higher Education Housing

Under the funding of the National Plan for Higher Education Housing (PNAES), the Polytechnic University of Coimbra has four approved applications, reflecting a strong commitment to creating conditions for young people and their families to continue to pursue higher education qualifications.

Decisive steps are being taken to improve the housing conditions for higher education students through the renovation of the student residences in São Martinho do Bispo (R1 and R2) and Quinta da Nora (R3). These residences were built over 20 years ago and were in need of refurbishment. The complete interior rehabilitation of the spaces will be carried out, including the rooms, bathrooms and common areas, along with the replacement of all furniture in the rooms and dining areas. With funding from the European Union – Next Generation EU, through the Recovery and Resilience Plan, of over 5 million euros to intervene in the two residence complexes totaling 359 beds, the complete interior rehabilitation of the spaces – rooms, bathrooms and common areas – will be conducted, including the replacement of all furniture in the rooms and dining areas (kitchens and kitchenettes).

Additionally, a residence will be built in Oliveira do Hospital with 98 beds to serve the student community of the Technology and Management School (ESTGOH). This application includes the purchase of a hotel and its complete renovation.

Finally, a new residence will be built on the PUC campus providing 400 beds, known as the “Espaço U Project” (U Space Project).

Total funding amount: €20,365,606.00
