Higher Technical Professional Course in Electrical Installations and Industrial Maintenance

Course Objectives

These superior technical professionals in Industrial Electrical Installations and Maintenance who will be formed in this course shall have the ability for, autonomous or integrated in a team, program, plan, implement and manage electrical installations and devices, diagnose, prepare, plan and perform several corrective and preventive maintenance activities in order to ensure maximum availability of industrial equipment and installations in order to meet the requirements of quality norms and safety regulations and production schedules.

Access Conditions

Under Decree-Law no. 63/2016, of 13 September and in line with Decree-Law no. 113/2014, of 16 July, with Decree-Law no. 65/2018, of 16 August and with the Regulations for Access and Admission to the Higher Professional Technical Courses of the Polytechnic of Coimbra and the Coimbra Institute of Engineering.

Professional Outlets

Main activities:

a) Install and use the most suitable instruments for the diagnosis of faults and for the maintenance of systems and equipment with electrical and electronic components;
b) Plan, coordinate, supervise and or carry out practical work on electrical installations in accordance with the “Technical Rules for Low Voltage Electrical Installations” (RTIEBT) and the other applicable legal standards;
c) Elaborate small projects, applying the legal norms in force, and coordinate the exploration and maintenance of energy systems and electrical and electromechanical installations;
d) Manage and supervise energy systems and networks involving infrastructure in buildings and industrial facilities;
e) Establish and guide the sequence of steps in the execution of electrical installations and energy distribution;
f) Establish maintenance programs and plans for electrical machines and electrical installations;
g) To manage maintenance plans for equipment, systems and or installations of an electromechanical, electrical or electronic nature, in order to improve their performance;
h) Coordinate interventions on equipment, systems and or installations of an electromechanical, electrical or electronic nature, in order to improve their operational characteristics, and prepare technical reports on the interventions;
i) Advise changes to the layout of systems and or production and / or operating equipment, in order to improve their performance;
j) Manage interventions in the event of anomalies and / or breakdowns, in order to assist production;
k) Coordinate, supervise and or carry out simulations and tests in low voltage electrical installations;
l) Coordinate and manage preventive maintenance practices;
m) Coordinate and manage error detection and technical deviation plans.

g) Apply maintenance techniques in the exercise of professional activity;
h) Apply methods and techniques of economics and management to undertake their own professional development throughout life;
i) Apply, in an experimental context, electrotechnics, electricity and electronics techniques;
j) Analyze and apply programs and maintenance plans for electrical machines and electrical installations;
k) Analyze and change electrical installations and or equipment with the aim of improving the overall performance of the installation;
l) Analyze projects for electromechanical and low voltage electrical installations.
