Teaching Methodologies
We will use some expository moments but mainly the flipped classroom methodology and role-play. Students can choose between two assessment modalities: Exam assessment or continuous assessment.
Learning Results
At the end of the UC, the student should have acquired the necessary skills to:
1. Frame the process of language acquisition and development in the Portuguese context of early childhood education, particularly in terms of legislation for daycare and the Curricular Guidelines for Pre-School Education (OCEPE).
2. Understand the concept of deaf didactics: principles and strategies most effective in teaching LGP to children between zero and six years old.
3. Use active listening and playful communicative interaction activities to promote the child’s linguistic skills.
4. Plan activities within the LGP curriculum (Early Childhood and Pre-School), using the most appropriate strategies and teaching materials for the child’s development.
5. Create and use visual and interactive teaching materials that facilitate the acquisition and/or learning of LGP.
6. Assess the linguistic and cognitive development of children, using appropriate methods for the age group

2. Legislation for daycare, Curricular Guidelines for Pre-School Education (OCEPE), and their application in the education of deaf children.
3. Principles and Strategies for Teaching LGP:
3.1. Fundamentals of ‘deaf’ didactics.
4. Active Listening and Playful Communicative Interaction:
4.1. Active listening techniques and their importance.
4.2. Games and playful activities to promote communication.
5. Planning of Didactic Activities
6. Visual and Interactive Teaching Materials:
6.1. Creation of visual materials (posters, flashcards, videos).
6.2. Use of interactive technologies (apps, digital games).
7. Involvement of Educators and Families:
7.1. Strategies to involve educators and families.
7.2. Collaboration with the deaf community.
8. Assessment of Linguistic Development:
8.1. Appropriate assessment methods for deaf children
