Teaching Methodologies

In this UC, strategies and activities such as directed readings of texts and images, flipped classroom, small group work, role-playing activities, and communication exercises that address different scenarios and needs will be prioritized, aiming at collaboration and effective communication in the arguments and proposals presented. It should be noted that, according to student feedback and the results of evaluations, methodological adjustments will be made as deemed appropriate. Finally, the integration of technological tools that motivate and facilitate student learning is foreseen.

Students can choose between two assessment modalities: Exam assessment or continuous assessment.

Learning Results

Within the scope of this UC, master’s students should be able to:

 (a) outline the main lines of educational policies in light of the international and national context;

(b) understand the relevant notions of the legal framework that regulates the bilingual education system and the professionalism of the LGP teaching function;

(c) analyze and critically reflect on LGP language policies as the medium of instruction and learning;

(d) express and substantiate reflections on bilingual education; (e) identify and understand the discursive matrices of language policies considered relevant in the deaf community;

 (g) understand and analyze current pedagogical trends that reveal the academic successes of signing students and any limitations of pedagogical methodologies concerning the available materials in the development of necessary educational policies in school and extracurricular contexts.

1.              Meaning and framework of Educational Policy and the articulation between international language policies and the Portuguese educational model;

2.              Horizon and trends of bilingual educational policies in light of national and international contexts;

3.              Legal framework of the bilingual education system in Portugal: organization, management, and curricular evaluation;

4.              The status of the teaching career and the professionalism of LGP teachers: evolution, problems, and current and future challenges;

5.              Critical analysis and reflection on educational and language policies: the curriculum and bilingual pedagogical trends;

6.              Deafness and bilingualism: different classifications and foundations of intermodal bilingualism.
