Teaching Methodologies

The methodology for monitoring the project/internship is defined by the DEIS-ISEC supervisor and usually consists of regular meetings. If it is an internship, the host entity adviser should also atend the meetings whenever possible. In addition, the DEIS-ISEC supervisor may require the student to provide intermediate reports. Before the assessment, the student must deliver a final report on all the work done in a timely manner.

Learning Results

Globally, the students are expected to develop activities that enable them to apply skills they acquired in various courses of the degree, particularly in the branch they attended.

Internships have a professional nature and are expected to be held, preferably, in the branch area of the student and in companies or industries that are active in that area. A student who finds himself in at least one of the following situations, cannot choose an internship, but only a project proposed by DEIS-ISEC professors:

  • the total number of ECTS completed by the time of application is less than ninety (90);
  • the total number of ECTS completed specifically in the area of Informatics Engineering until the time of application is less than seventy (70);
  • the number of UCs to be attended simultaneously with the Project or Internship curricular unit is equal to or greater than four (4).

Projects are intended to be done in DEIS-ISEC and, preferably, in strict collaboration with business and industry.

The specific objectives depend on the project/traineeship to develop. However, it is expected that the students acquire the following generic skills:

  • Apply their knowledge and understanding ability to solve problems in new and unfamiliar situations, preferentially in real world scenarios;
  • Report their findings, knowledge, and underlying reasoning regarding the activities they developed;
  • Develop computer applications;
  • Present and convincingly explain the options underlying the developed activities;
  • Draw conclusions about the practical and theoretical knowledge acquired during their project/traineeship periods;
  • Develop a professional attitude towards work;
  • Develop self-learning capabilities;
  • Work in multidisciplinary teams.
