Teaching Methodologies

The theoretical-practical framework will be implemented using oral and Powerpoint presentation complemented by educational videos, and display of texts for study. Regarding practical tasks, will be adopted the strategies and procedures as follow: oral presentation, demonstration, observation/correction, observation and evaluation tools, and specific educational materials to each block.

Learning Results

To develop knowledge, skills and competencies at the level of historical, conceptual and organizational perspective, concerning Adventure Tourism and Nature Sports (ATNS), so that students can:

1. know, understand and critically analyze historical, social and cultural trends, that led to these practices and their evolution in the different countries and more specifically in Portugal

2. contextualise and articulate the key concepts of ATNS

3. identify the profile, roles and training of professionals in ATNS activities

4. understand and analyze the legal framework of TADN activities, in particular the legislation applicable to tourist animation

5. understand and apply the methodological tools for planning and managing programs, projects and events related with ATNS activities

6. promote and foster TADN activities in different ways: land, air and water (inland and coastal)

Program

1. Introduction to adventure tourism and nature sports (ATNS): Origin, concepts and characteristics; Offer and demand for ATNS activities; Profile, functions and training of ATNS professionals; The legal framework of TADN activities – tourist animation and applicable legislation; Planning and management of programs, projects and events of ATNS; Material and equipment management and maintenance of ATNS; Natural spaces management / sustainability; Sport facilities management (adventure parks, nautical centres, etc.); Risk and safety management

2. TADN Practices: Technical aspects related to terrestrial TADN activities (mountain biking, hiking, orienteering, climbing, rope maneuvering, etc.), airborne (ballooning, paragliding, hang gliding, bungee jumping, etc.) and in Inland and coastal waters (canoeing, canyoning, rafting, Stand Up Paddle, sailing, surfing, windsurfing, etc.
