Teaching Methodologies
The teaching-learning process of this curricular unit includes oral presentation, reading exercises, reflection and research, and practical work with oral presentation in class. Preparation and discussion of visit reports.
Learning Results
1- Characterize the major periods of pre-history and the history of western civilization;
2- Characterize the major movements in the history of art, with emphasis on the architectural styles most used in the built heritage in Portugal
3- Relate the history of art with the history of Portugal
4- Describe different forms of tangible and intangible heritage in Portugal, contextualizing them historically and social context;
5- Know classified heritage in Portugal, as well as the general characteristics of the classification processes
6- Characterize heritage heritage processes, in particular those related to the rural world
7- Describe different types of heritage in rural areas.
Program
a) Periodization of western civilization; the Judeo-Christian roots; the Roman influence and Islamism; the major lines of transformation of political, social and economic structures of independent Portugal;
b) The traces of prehistoric civilizations; rock paintings and engravings; megalithic monuments; ceramics and metals.
c) Characterization and contextualization of the major artistic movements in Portugal: the remains of classical antiquity; paleo-Christian buildings and the Islamic influence; Romanesque, Gothic, Manueline, Renaissance, Mannerist, Baroque, Rococo, Neoclassical, Art Nouveau and Modernism styles; other artistic manifestations;
d) Concept and characteristics of heritage; classification of cultural heritage; legislation; heritage as a development strategy and as a touristic resource; examples of different types of tangible and intangible heritage;
e) Patrimonialization processes: concept and examples in the rural world.
