Higher Technical Professional Course in Forestry Operations

Course Objectives

The aim of the Higher Professional Technical Course in Forestry Operations is to train professionals who, autonomously and under guidance, are capable of carrying out tasks, planning, monitoring and evaluating forestry operations, both within the scope of vegetation management operations and forestry exploitation operations.

Access Conditions

Under the terms of article 40-E of Decree-Law no. 74/2006, of 24 March, you can apply for access to the CTeSP:1) Holders of a secondary education course or legally equivalent qualification;
2) Those who have passed the specially appropriate tests designed to assess the ability to attend higher education for those over 23 years of age, carried out for the course in question, under the terms of Decree-Law no. 64/2006, of 21 March, amended by Decree-Laws no. 113/2014, of 16 July and 63/2016, of 13 September;
3) Holders of a technological specialisation diploma, a higher professional technician diploma or a higher education degree.

Learning Objectives

a) Characterise the area of intervention, resources and limitations to the practice of vegetation control and forestry operations;
b) Design and prepare the material execution of forestry operations in accordance with plans, codes of good practice and compliance with forestry legislation;
c) Supervising and monitoring the execution of forestry operations, ensuring occupational safety, proper operation and maintenance of equipment;
d) Carry out operations with multi-function machines;
e) Carry out filling and primary transport operations;
f) Monitor forest certification audits;
g) Supervising recovery activities after forestry operations have been carried out;
h) Joining multidisciplinary teams in different work and social contexts.

Access to Superior Studies

Holders of the Higher Professional Technical Course in Food Quality can apply for a higher degree. At the Escola Superior Agrária de Coimbra, graduates have direct access to apply for entry to degrees in Organic Agriculture, Agro-Livestock Engineering, Biotechnology, Forestry and Natural Resources, Food Technology, Environmental Technology and Management.
