Postgraduate Studies in Geriatrics Intervention

Course Objectives

The Postgraduate Course in Gerontological Intervention aims to foster the acquisition of knowledge and the development of skills appropriate to different professional contexts of gerontological intervention and to promote the ability to develop new professional practices.

Access Conditions

May apply: a) Holders of a bachelor’s degree or legal equivalent; b) Holders of a foreign higher academic degree awarded following a 1st cycle of studies organized in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Process by a State adhering to this Process; c) Holders of a foreign higher academic degree that is recognized as meeting the objectives of the degree by the ESEC Technical-Scientific Council; d) Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum, which is recognized as attesting the ability to carry out this cycle of studies by the ESEC Technical-Scientific Council.

Learning Objectives

The objectives of the Postgraduate Course in Gerontological Intervention are:
– Understand theoretical/practical frameworks and apply the knowledge produced in the definition, development and improvement of programs, services or humanized practices adjusted to the needs, potential and interests of elderly people and their families.
– Know and apply assessment instruments that allow the identification of needs and potential of older people, and depending on the results, develop and implement individualized intervention plans, aimed at their functional, cognitive and social optimization, actively involving older people , family, caregiver and community.
– Design, plan and implement community and institutional development projects/programs with and for older people, which promote positive social environments with a view to maximizing their well-being, health and quality of life.
– Mobilize resources that respond to older people needs.
– Know the process of implementing a quality system.
– Develop leadership, communication and team management skills.
– Know intervention practices in the psychological, educational, artistic, social, sporting and technological domains.
