How to get to Coimbra?

To get to the student city, you can do so by car, but also by public transport, which is a more economical and environmentally friendly solution.

So you can choose between:

 

Train

In the city of Coimbra there are two train stations, one in the north entrance of the city (Coimbra B) and another in the centre (Coimbra A). If you are up to 25 years old, CP – Comboios de Portugal gives a 25% discount on all journeys. You can buy the tickets at the ticket offices of both stations, via internet or ATM. If you buy tickets Alfa Pendular and Intercidades at least 5 days in advance, you can enjoy discounts of up to 56%. If you buy 8 or more days in advance, discounts can reach 65%. Express Network

If you choose to travel by bus and use the Express Network, you will have at your disposal the YOUNGER ticket which is for passengers between 13 and 29 years old. To use this ticket, you just need to be within this age range and have an Identity Document to prove it. If you are over 29 years old, you may adhere to the REFLEX card. SMTUC

The main means of public transport in Coimbra is the SMTUC – Serviços Municipalizados de Transportes Urbanos de Coimbra bus network. Several routes are available throughout the city and outskirts. It is useful to have the SMTUC application on your mobile phone, which allows you to consult all the bus timetables, anywhere and always up to date.

– Pre-purchased Ticket Fares

You must purchase a card, which costs 0.50 £, and charge or recharge it with the desired trips, with options between 3 trips (2.20 €) and 11 trips (6.40 €), and also the ticket for 1 day (3.50 €).

– Student Pass

The pass is valid for the respective school year and has a monthly cost of 15 euros.

 

Conditions for applying for a student pass:

– Presentation of identification document (Identity Card or Citizen Card);

– Students enrolled in Basic, Secondary or Vocational Schools that grant equivalence to Secondary Education, Higher Education or enrolled in professional and curricular internships, Postgraduations, Masters or other academic degrees, proving their entitlement by presenting the original and a copy of the school’s Enrolment Declaration, valid for the school year starting or in progress.

How to get to Oliveira do Hospital?

The city of Oliveira do Hospital belongs to the district of Coimbra, about 45 minutes away from this city, and has about 4400 inhabitants. To go to the city, you can do it in your own car or using the public transports.
