Teaching Methodologies
The lectures use expository and inquisitive methods. The syllabus is covered in practical situations and critical thinking and understanding
are encouraged through active participation in class; students solve exercises individually or in groups.
In some classes, which are more tutorial in nature, individual learning skills and teamwork are explored by clarifying doubts and monitoring
the proposed work.
Learning Results
The course focuses on developing skills and techniques for interpreting and developing construction processes, taking into account the
respective sizing criteria and typologies used in the construction of everyday buildings. It also aims to provide knowledge of the main
components of buildings and their construction processes so as to enable the definition of the constitution and organization of the different
building elements, namely foundations, structures, walls, floors, roofs and glazing, in order to guarantee the satisfaction of functional
requirements.
Acquire knowledge of building water distribution and domestic and rainwater drainage systems.

1. Introduction
Framing of the curricular unit within the scope of training in the buildings component.
2. Functional requirements
Concept of functional requirements. Analysis and definition of the functional requirements applied to the various constructive elements that
make up buildings.
Safety requirements
Habitability requirements
Sustainability requirements
3. Technologies
Presentation of various technologies associated with building elements: substructures, superstructures, walls, roofs, floors, openings,
prefabrication.
4. Building water distribution systems
Learn about different building systems for distributing cold water and hot water. Presentation of systems for obtaining domestic hot water.
5. Water drainage systems
Learn about different wastewater and rainwater drainage systems.
