Teaching Methodologies

The teaching and learning methodologies used in this curricular unit are active student-centered methodologies, namely by using the
Flipped Learning method and by solving class questions individually and in groups.

Learning Results

Recognize various types of flow;
Identify different flow resistance laws;
Analyze a water supply network;
Describe the characteristics and operation of centrifugal pumps.

Program

1. Basic concepts of urban hydrology
Study of precipitation;
Characterization of river basins;
Flood flows.
2. Permanent flows under pressure
Bernoulli’s theorem;
Flow resistance laws;
Singular pressure losses.
Pipeline systems.
Water distribution networks;
Euler’s theorem.
3. Flows with a free surface
Uniform flows.
Regolfo and rebound with constant flow.
4. Hydraulic pumps
Centrifugal pumps.
Pump and installation characteristics.
Parallel and series operation.
NPSH suction head.
