Introdução aos Sistemas de Informação Geográfica

Teaching Methodologies

Theoretical-practical classes have an expository, critical analysis and discussion component, associated with learning about solutions and
applicable technologies and problem-solving methodologies. It is an environment of interaction with the students, but conducted in a guided
manner. Afterwards, students are encouraged to solve problems applying the concepts in the context of sustainable city management, in
order to consolidate the previous presentation. Whenever appropriate, the problem is presented first to justify the introduction of one or
more concepts.

Learning Results

Know the data structures for spatial information.
Search for geographic information, build and share maps.
Master Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software for data in vector and matrix format.
Apply the spatial operations used to solve problems.
Understand spatial referencing systems (national and international) and basic cartographic concepts.
Understand the fundamentals of Remote Sensing

Program

1. introduction to GIS: what they are, what they are used for; brief historical overview.
2. Vector and matrix (raster) spatial data models; map construction and sharing; operations on vector and matrix geographic data sets;
introduction to spatial analysis; data editing.
3. Spatial referencing systems; coordinate conversion; introduction to georeferencing techniques.
4. Digital terrain models (vector, raster and TIN); derivation operations (slopes, slope orientation, exposure, visibility) based on DEMs.
5. Introduction to Remote Sensing: principles; sensors and images; spatial, spectral and temporal resolution; satellite programs. Brief
introduction to multispectral image analysis.
