Bachelor in Applied Musical Studies

Course Objectives

A degree in Applied Musical Studies from Coimbra College of Education’s mission is the training of quality professionals, able to engage actively in the labor market and providing services in the field of Musical Intervention in rehabilitation contexts or social reintegration and still in field of audio technologies, whether or not linked to visual technologies.

Access Conditions

The acess to Applied Music Studies is done through a Local Aplication.
The evaluation of the ability to attend Applied Music Studies is through:

1. National Exam (one of the following):

12 Hist. of Culture and Arts
11 History
13 English
15 Portuguese Literature
16 Mathematics
18 English

2. Specific Vocational Aptitude Test, of Applied Musical Studies (to be held at ESEC). Under the terms of the Regulation for the Application for Enrollment of Applied Music Studies at ESEC, published by Ordinance No. 58/2020, 4 of March, the Vocational Aptitude Test comprises the following components:
a) General knowledge of music;
b) Vocal and instrumental performance;
c) Interview with the candidate.

Professional Outlets

Mediators for musical recreation projects at various kinds of institutions;
Directors of choirs, student singing groups and other amateur musical groups;
Support technicians for teams involved in producing/making music;
Specialist editors for musical scores;
Foley artists.

Learning Objectives

In the case of a higher education polytechnic, the philosophy of curriculum structure aims to reconcile the following general objectives in the definition of a professional quality profile:
a) articulate a scientific background with a technical background associated with the domain operational skills, able to provide not only “know-how” as primarily a “know why you do”;
b) To coordinate academic projects with the labor market, in order to adjust the nature of training to the demands of the labor market, without forgetting the imperative of polytechnic higher education institutions to actively contribute to the innovation and development of practices professional labor market itself;
c) To articulate a plan of training of scientific and technical skills with a training plan personal skills of students able to enable not only the pursuit of an occupation, but also the development of constructive interpersonal relationships, entrepreneurial initiatives and attitudes of openness to projects of self- education and training throughout life;
d) To promote international mobility of students in the European Union area, helping to open up to other realities and to build the medium term of a “European Area of Citizenship”.

Access to Superior Studies

The Diploma in Apllied Musical Studies grants qualification to continue studies in a Master Degree.
