Micro-credential in Mechanisms of Action of Phages

Course Objectives

Antibiotic resistance has been increasing, causing growing concern for public health. The World Health Organization has declared it one of the ten greatest threats to global health. So, phage therapy, recently approved in Portugal, is one of the alternatives to be applied. This type of therapy is based on the application of lytic bacteriophages, which specifically recognize and eliminate bacteria, their natural host.
This course aims to contribute to the optimization of the scientific and technical skills of health professionals and professionals in the field of biomedical sciences, training students through a set of basic knowledge that allows them to contextualize and understand the mechanisms of action of phages based on their ability to fight bacterial infections.
