@GIR - Regional Innovation Offices
The Regional Innovation Offices – @GIR are an initiative of the Polytechnic of Coimbra that aims to bring innovation to the territory in partnership with municipalities and institutions of the region.
The actions and protocols are carried out under the project “AGIR4Innovation – Transfer of knowledge, technology and innovation to inland territories”, with the operation code POCI-01-0246-FEDER-181326.
Foundations of the Project
Promote a Culture of Innovation – promote a culture of boosting employment and entrepreneurship based on innovation among the various relevant stakeholders, from public and private institutions to students, unemployed people, and the community in general.
@GIR in the Field – Promote initiatives to identify and solve specific problems as well as implement solutions, through multidisciplinary teams that promote links between the various actors involved.
@GIR Network – Create conditions for effective links between different stakeholders by developing a platform where innovative actions, ideas and projects can be conveyed and where companies can pose problems to be solved, in order to create an effective and efficient communication channel linking the Polytechnic of Coimbra to the regions.

DENSO | 2nd Cultural and Artistic Exhibition of the Region of Coimbra
The Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra (IPC) and the Intermunicipal Community (CIM) of the Coimbra Region co-organize for the 2nd edition the exhibition DENSO – II Cultural and Artistic Exhibition of the Coimbra Region which will be on display at the Penedo da Saudade Cultural Center from January 30th to March 3, 2024. This partnership aims to reiterate the success of the 1st edition, which had a ‘full house’ in the 2023 edition.

The exhibition and parallel agenda aim to connect the IPC to a territory rich in culture and highly valued artists. This 2nd edition of DENSO aims to further promote dialogue between artists and visitors, highlighting the relevance of knowledge and the preservation of memory and regional cultural roots.
DENSO – II Cultural and Artistic Exhibition of the Coimbra Region is an exhibition full of learning and riches around our territory, opening on January 30, 2023, at 6:00 pm, at the Penedo da Saudade Cultural Center.

Mortágua | “@GIR with Adapted Sport – Football for the Blind”
Within the scope of @GIR – Regional Innovation Offices of the Polytechnic of Coimbra, the @GIR event with Adapted Sports – Football for the Blind in Mortágua, at Campo da Gandarada, will take place on November 18th at 2:30 pm.
The event is organized by the Polytechnic of Coimbra – IPC, in partnership with the Municipality of Mortágua, the Sport Club Conimbricense, the Guide Dog School for the blind of Mortágua, with the close collaboration of the municipality’s football clubs, namely Mortágua Futebol Clube, Casa do Benfica de Mortágua and Sporting Clube de Vale de Açores and also CAC – Clube Atlético e Cultural.
The “@GIR event with Adapted Sports – Football for the Blind” in Mortágua is the fourth in a cycle of events that the Polytechnic of Coimbra is organizing with local partners, in the various municipalities where the Regional Innovation Offices are already installed. In Mortágua, taking advantage of the existence of the only school in the country that trains guide dogs for use by visually impaired citizens, the IPC intends to reinforce the connection with the territory by holding a football demonstration for the blind, aimed at everyone, but with a focus in the school community and football players (training levels). The event will feature two particular moments: a first part with different adapted sports challenges, namely Football for the Blind, Showdown, which children from local football clubs and their families will be able to experience, with the support of researchers and students from the Polytechnic of Coimbra. The second moment will consist of a football game for the Blind, with athletes from Sport Club Conimbricense and Clube Atlético e Cultural.
It should also be noted that Dr. Carlos Lopes, Secretary General of the Portuguese Paralympic Committee (CPP), will be present.
Penela | “@GIR in the Field – 1st National Meeting Qualified Products with DOP/IGP/ETG”
Events
Within the scope of @GIR – Regional Innovation Offices, the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra and the Municipal Council of Penela, are organizing the seminar “@GIR for the Territory – Qualified Products with PDO/IGP/ETG: I National Meeting”, which will will take place on November 17th at 10 am, in the António Arnaut Municipal Library Auditorium in Penela.
Qualifying local and/or regional products is a way of leveraging local economies, particularly in low-density territories. However, there are several challenges in terms of qualifying these products. The seminar will have two moments, the first of which will address the Challenges of Product Qualification and the second will be dedicated to the Social and Economic Importance of PDO/IGP/ETG for the regions.
In the first panel, Ana Soeiro, Executive Director of QUALIFICA/oriGIn PORTUGAL, will give a presentation on the challenges and difficulties of product qualification, followed by a round table where these aspects will also be addressed by Paula Hipólito Ferreira (Director -General of Agriculture and Rural Development), Luísa Bastos (Kiwa Sativa), Jorge Soares (Maçã de Alcobaça) and Ana Soeiro herself, moderated by Christelle Domingos (InovCluster).
The second panel will follow the same model, starting with a presentation by Cristóvão Monteiro, president of CEIT – Strategic Center for Territorial Innovation and professor at ISCAC | Coimbra Business School. In this presentation, Cristóvão Monteiro will highlight the Social and Economic Importance of PDO and PGI for the regions. This presentation will serve as the theme for the round table moderated by himself and made up of Diana Ventura (Forte Ventura), Paulo Fernandes (CM Fundão) and Anabela Freitas (Turismo do Centro).

Coimbra | @gir4Innovation: Regional Development Engine Based on Innovation

The Agir4Innovation Consortium, led by the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra in collaboration with CoLAB AquaValor, intends to present the project results at this event, and also bring together a set of individuals and entities through the promotion of round tables and sharing of good practices around thematic transversal pillars of Digitalization and IoT; Territory and its Endogenous Products; Water; Active and Healthy Aging; Agrifood, Environment, Forestry and Planning; Society, Health and Welfare; Industry; Tourism and Leisure.
This event, like the Agir4Innovation Project, aims to consolidate the links between the Scientific and Technological System and the low-density territories of the Central Region and the Alto Tâmega Region.

Arganil | “@GIR in the Field – Challenges, Perspectives and Innovation in the 3rd sector”
The new social and economic dynamics that call into question the viability of the third sector are a common challenge to the vast majority of the institutions that compose it. Therefore, it is urgent to think, debate and outline new approaches to the management and activity of IPSS, which play a fundamental role in the Portuguese society and its communities. In this context, the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra and the Municipality of Arganil will promote the Seminar “@GIR in the Field – Challenges, Perspectives and Innovation in the 3rd sector”, to be held in Arganil on May 19 and 20.
The activities of the first day will take place at Antiga Cerâmica Arganilense and will be dedicated to Technical Workshops, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., whose goal will be to address the most challenging themes identified in 2022 by the Private Institutions of Social Solidarity (IPSS) of the region.
Between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., the Seminar “@GIR in the Field – Challenges, Perspectives and Innovation in the 3rd sector” will take place with three main sharing axes: the “Human Resources Management”, “New Social Responses” and “Management and Funding”.
On May 19, the Exhibition: “Innovation & Good Practices in the 3rd Sector” will also be at Cerâmica Arganilense, with the aim of sharing good practices and innovative projects in the third sector.
On the second day, May 20, between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., in the Urban Green Park of Sub-Paço in Arganil, outdoor activities open to the community will take place. This initiative entitled “Together & Active | From 0 to 100” invites the general public to experience non-formal education contexts and projects relevant to the third sector.

Shopify – The present and future of ecommerce
Within the framework of @GIR – Regional Innovation Office – Polytechnic of Coimbra, Coimbra Business School | ISCAC, in partnership with AUGE Agency, will hold a session on Shopify: The present and future of ecommerce. The open class will take place on April 26, at the Maia Gomes Amphitheater and is intended for entrepreneurs, designers or simply those who are interested in developing skills in ecommerce.
The program content will address what Shopify is, online store, design and developer, business and features, store management, backoffice, sales channels and adaptation to international markets.
In addition, we will talk about future jobs in the world of ecommerce, such as Shopify Developer, Shopify Designer, Shopify Expert, Shopify Partner, Ecommerce growth agency.

DENSO | 1st Cultural and Artistic Exhibition of the Region of Coimbra
DENSO – 1st Cultural and Artistic Exhibition of the Region of Coimbra, an exhibition co-organized by the Polytechnic of Coimbra (IPC) and the Intermunicipal Community of the Region of Coimbra (CIM RC), within project @GIR/Regional Innovation Offices, will happen from March 14 to April 6, 2023, at the Cultural Center in Penedo da Saudade, and intends to connect the IPC to the territory, in particular to the low-density municipalities of the Region of Coimbra.
The exhibition of artists’ works from the municipalities of CIM RC was curated by Bartolomeu Paiva, Cristina Faria and Nuno Chuva Vasco. The exhibition will also feature a display of literary works from the municipalities and a parallel agenda composed of 6 major dates and events starting at 6 p.m.

Oliveira do Hospital | “@GIR in the Field – Contributions to Agrifood Innovation”
The growing interest in innovative agrifood products that meet not only sensory but also nutritional needs, promoting physical well-being, is one of the goals of food industries today. Allied to this trend is the need to promote regional products.
In this context, the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra and the Municipality of Oliveira do Hospital are organizing the event “@GIR in the Field – Contributions to Agrifood Innovation” to be held in Oliveira do Hospital and consisting of four moments:
– Posters Exhibition, from 6 to 10 March 2023, at Oliveira do Hospital Management and Technology School.
– Seminar & Product Show on March 10, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., at Oliveira do Hospital Management and Technology School.
– Sensory Evaluation of Serra da Estrela Cheese PDO on March 11, 2023, at 5:00 p.m., at the Serra da Estrela Cheese Festival of Oliveira do Hospital.
– Technical Workshop on 23 March 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at ANCOSE.

Lousã | Seminar “@GIR in the Field – Current and future challenges of the Landscape Transformation Program”
The Landscape Transformation Program, conceived after the fires of 2017, represents an opportunity to rethink the management of the most vulnerable territories, but it also presents many challenges and lacks in-depth debate about them. The conjunctural dynamics point in the right way, but the transformation of the territory into a multifunctional, biodiverse, and resilient system is complex.
In this context, the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra and the Town Hall of Lousã are organizing the Seminar “@GIR in the Field – Current and future challenges of the Landscape Transformation Program”, to be held in Lousã on February 15, 2023, at 2 p.m.
Under project F4F (Forest for Future), a Demonstrative Route of “Adaptive Forest Management in Mixed Stands with Productive Potential” will take place at 10 a.m.
