Base Knowledge
Botany and dendrology
Teaching Methodologies
Theoretical-practical classes, with visits to the field, laboratory and forest nurseries.
Learning Results
This course aims to give the student the necessary knowledge in the area of plant physiology and forest plant reproduction, namely.
1) The physiological and morphological bases of forest tree growth and development and the application of this knowledge to forest management; the effect of environmental factors on carbon balance; the response of trees to environmental factors: light, temperature, water, and nutrients.
2) The methodologies and techniques associated with the reproduction and propagation of forest plants; the conditions required for the certification of the base material and the breeding forest material.
Program
Part 1 – The physiological and morphological bases of tree growth , and relationships with silvicultural practices.
- The growth and development of forest trees, for height growth, in diameter and in the development of root systems.
- The effect of internal and environmental factors and the response on photosynthesis products distribution.
- The effect of forest practices on productivity, quality and sustainability.
Part 2 – Reproduction of forest plants.
- The management of seed/base material producing areas.
- The methods and techniques for harvesting, processing and seed conservation.
- The methods and techniques of production of forest plants/reproduction forestry material.
- The rules and good practices for storage and application of phytochemicals.
- The quality assessment and certification.
- Conditions for packing and transport.
- The plantation assessment.
