Basic knowledge of agriculture and animal production.

Teaching Methodologies

Theoretical-practical sessions, with expository methodology for the presentation of theoretical concepts;
Permanent illustration with case studies and group discussion;
Analysis of scientific and dissemination articles;
Bibliographic research for elements and data; Use of agriculture and livestock management software;
Direct observation and concrete assessment of the ESAC farm and/or others.

Learning Results

1. identify the main agricultural production systems in the country and the strategic plan for their development;
2. Relate the technical options for production and management of the agricultural holding to the system practised;
3. Recognise the production cycle, seasonality, soil and climate factors and others limiting agricultural activity;
4. Relate the technical specificities and constraints of agricultural and animal production to their management options;
5. Recognise and propose technical performance indicators for an agricultural holding;
6. Calculate and interpret efficient technical performance indicators for an agricultural holding;
7. Propose improvements to the technical performance of an agricultural holding.

3. Situation of the main agricultural sectors and their national strategic development plan.
4. Management of the main agricultural crops, constraints and bottlenecks to production.
5. Production factors and identification of efficiency indicators in the utilisation of production factors.
6. Calculation and critical analysis of performance indicators.
 
II – Livestock production
1. Main production systems and methods. 
2. Types of livestock farming in Portugal and their ecological environment.
3. Situation of the main livestock sectors and their national strategic development plan.
4. Predominant stages of the animal production cycle, constraints and bottlenecks to production.
5. Key aspects of livestock farm management and identification of production efficiency indicators.
6. Calculation and critical analysiis performance indicators
