Teaching Methodologies
Various methods are combined in accordance with the regulations in force:
. Oral presentation of the contents necessary for the acquisition of skills, in theoretical-practical classes and seminars/lectures, which arouse the participation of students
– Conducting practical role-playing exercises
– Development of project work applied to real contexts and/or integrated in research projects
– Oral presentation and discussion of papers
– Study visits
– Lectures by speaker(s) experts in the subject.
Learning Results
Environmental management tools and certification systems are fundamental tools for organizational competitiveness and the promotion of sustainable development. This course aims to provide students with an in-depth knowledge of the main tools used in environmental management, certification systems and sustainability reporting processes, as well as the development of practical skills that allow them to apply these methodologies effectively in real organizational contexts.
Program
. Introduction to integrated environmental management: mandatory (legislation) and voluntary (agreements, labelling and certification) instruments. Continuous improvement, the Deming cycle and standardization. Integrated management and the certification process
. Environmental and quality certification systems: ISO 9001 and 14001 series; life cycle analysis (ISO 14040); environmental product declaration (ISO 14025); EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme)
. Other certification systems: occupational health and safety management systems (ISO 45001); food safety management systems (ISO 22000); energy management systems (ISO 50001); audits of management systems (ISO 19001)
. Sustainability reporting in organizations: Decree-Law No. 89/2017, Commission Communication 2019/C 209/01 and GRI standards
