Botany and Plant Physiology

Base Knowledge

nothing to mention

Teaching Methodologies

Formal exposition.
Field trips for observation and collection of material and information.
Execution of practical work in the laboratory and in the field.
Research and application of specialized bibliographic information by the student.

Learning Results

1. Refer to and summarise the basics of botanical knowledge in the areas of anatomy, morphology, physiology, diversity and phylogeny, including theoretical knowledge and visualisation of examples in the field or laboratory.
2. List and apply the principles and methods of research in the area of the CU, including examples in the field or laboratory and bibliographical research.
3. Interconnect the learning in this CU to acquire an integrated understanding of how plants work and be able to subsequently seek greater and more sustainable productivity, including examples, bibliographical research and challenges posed during lessons.

Program

A1. Descriptive Botany: histology, anatomy and morphology; examples of plant uses and specific characteristics
A2. Plant Physiology: water, respiratory and photosynthetic metabolism; nutrition; genetic and hormonal regulation of development
A3. Phylogeny and Diversity: main taxonomic groups and diversity recognition and identification
B. Practical application of knowledge: identification of plants and physiology topics (simultaneously with A1, A2 and A3).

Grading Methods

Continuous assessment:
1) Four mini-tests lasting less than 30 min (MT1 20% + MT2 15% + MT3 15% + MT4 20% = 70%);

2) Practical work including research and herborisation of morphological and systematic aspects, with the possibility of defence or oral presentation (15%).

3) Theoretical-practical work including analysis of the results of protocols carried out and research, with the possibility of defence or oral presentation (15%).

When the weighted average of the various components is equal to or greater than 9.5, the student is considered aproved.

Exam:
The final exam includes a written test with all the material taught (100%).
