Teaching Methodologies
Due to the interruption of the LEAP course, the curricular unit (CU) will not run normally during the semester. To provide the proposed competences, the teaching/learning process will be based on tutorials requested by the students and scheduled by the professors via NONIO or e-mail (Module 1 and 2- milo@esac.pt; Module 3- Luisa Chambel: luisam@esac.pt).
Learning Results
The aim is to promote in the student the following learning outcomes:
1. To know the production process, management, overall performance and systems in poultry production.
2. To know the production process and the constraints in rabbits for meat production.
3. Understand the processes and operations for the animal feed
Program
Module 1: Avian species and productive objectives. Activity of reproduction, incubation and meat production; activities of rearing of pullets and commercial egg production. Technical and economic evaluation in breeders, meat production and egg production. Maintenance of health and biosecurity. Slaughterhouse, slaughter of birds and meat quality.
Module 2: Breeds of rabbits and their productive objectives. The activities for production of meat: selection, breeders and production. Sanitary control. Technical and economic indices. Slaughterhouses, slaughtering and meat quality.
Module 3: the compound feedingstuffs industry (ACA) in Portugal, facing the Community and global market. Characterization of the main raw materials used in the ACA. Presentation of the different sectors of the ACA and factory planning

Continuous assessment:
Due to the interruption of the course, the CU will not run in the academic year 2025/2026. Therefore, continuous assessment will not be possible.
Assessment in the final exam:
Módulo 1: Poultry Production [30%]:
Written test
Módulo 2: Rabbit Production [30%]:
Written test [70%] and practical exam [30%]
Módulo 3: Compound Feedingstuffs [40%]:
Written test
FINAL CLASSIFICATION= 30% x module 1 + 30% x module 2 + 40% x module 3
A student is considered approved when they achieve an average grade of at least 9.5 across the three modules.
