Teaching Methodologies
Teaching methodologies will consist of the following procedures:
1) Theoretical and generical presentation of the subject matters;
2) Exploration of case studies by the students, closely supported by the teacher;
3) A working assignment to be made by the students;
4) Written evaluating, followed by a viva voce presentation of the assignment’s results.
Learning Results
1. To recognize the importance of biodiversity under different perspectives.
2. To know how to preserve/conserve biodiversity.
Program
1. Values related to Biodiversity (ethical or intrinsic, instrumental or economic, moral or religious, aesthetic or hedonic).
2. Natural condition and human importance of Biodiversity: spatial and temporal patterns; past and present extinction rates; economic and ecological importance.
3. Policy options with an impact on Biodiversity: regulating the economic use of land, monitoring the capture, collection and trade of wild species, mitigating anthropogenic climate change.
4. Preservation and Conservation of Biodiversity: raising awareness of behavioural changes in society; legal regulations and enforcement; in situ conservation through public intervention in protected areas and habitat restoration
Grading Methods
Continuous assessment by practical assignment and written test, each contributing 40% and 60% respectively to the final grade.
Assessment in other periods carried out by practical assignment and written test, each contributing respectively 40% and 60% to the final grade.
