Theoretical-practical teaching with a strong practical component to be developed in the Forestry Operations and Techniques Centre (COTF – Lousã) and in the ESAC woods or other forest area.

Know the machines and equipment used in forest exploitation. Forestry operations carried out within the framework of forest exploitation: – importance of planning forestry operations (slaughtering, processing, extraction and transport of woody material), integration of ecosystem constraints, hygiene and safety at work standards, and principles of sustainable forest management.

– Use of chainsaw and brushcutter;

– Manual felling, with a chainsaw;

– Processing of woody material, by manual methods using the chainsaw;

– Use of mechanized felling and processing techniques, and use of exploration equipment in cultural cuts;

– Use of extraction and transport techniques;

– identification of operating machinery and equipment available on the market;

– fulfillment of the objectives, integrating ecosystem restrictions, hygiene and safety at work standards, sustainable forest management principles and aspects related to the defense of the forest against fires.

Continuous assessment:

Conducting a theoretical/practical test (with a weighting of 25%), continuous practical assessment (75% in the final grade), and a minimum grade of 7.5 values in both components. The final average must be equal to or greater than 9.5 to pass.

Final exam evaluation:

Completion of a theoretical/practical written assessment, contributing with 25% to the final grade, and realization of a practical contributing with 75% to the final grade and a minimum grade of 7.5 values in both components. The final average must be equal to or greater than 9.5 to pass.
