Lectures will be theoretical-practical. An expository methodology will be used to present the theoretical concepts that will be exemplified with the presentation of case studies issued from the National reality. The exhibition will be made using power point presentations, videos, practical demonstrations on the farm, bibliography and other references of the specialty. The learning outcomes will be evaluated in a formative and summative way through the development of a technical itinerary project for the creation and use of a product and a written test.

1. Know the soil and climate characteristics of Portugal, their diversity and distribution, as well as the geological and geomorphological characteristics.

3. Know the distribution of the different rural landscapes in Portugal and their main characteristics.

4. Know the main PDO, IPG and TSG products.

5. Know the main geological, geomorphological and arquitectural assets of rural areas in Portugal.

6. Understand the importance of sustainable, quality production systems for the preservation of ecosystems and territories.

7. To know the genetic diversity of Portuguese product varieties

1. Framework for national agricultural production. Soil, climate, geology, geomorphology, water and energy. Geography and agriculture: the major agricultural regions and farming systems in Portugal. Agriculture and the agricultural environment. Farm typology: size and markets. Production constraints.

2. National agricultural production: traditional practices and modern technologies. Main annual crops. Perennial crops: vines, fruit and olive growing. Family and industrial horticulture. Extensive and intensive livestock farming.

3. Distribution of the different rural landscapes in Portugal and their main characteristics.

4. Main PDO, IPG and TSG products.

5. The main geological, geomorphological and arquitectural assets of rural areas in Portugal. Portugal, the Mediterranean and the Atantic.

6. The importance of sustainable and quality production systems for the preservation of ecosystems and territories.

Continuous evaluation

Individual monograph on the tourist assets of a municipality (with which they have links), and the development of an integrated tourism product in rural and natural areas with a weight of 100%. The preparation of the monograph will have an interim qualitative assessment element at the middle of the semester, to help students produce a higher quality final product.
