Information Systems in Tourism

User knowledge of programs used for common tasks. For example, Microsoft Windows Explorer, file compressor, Internet browser, Microsoft Office.

For each procedure, the objective is indicated, followed by an exercise. Each student repeats the procedure a second time on their own, immediately clearing up any doubts that may arise. The procedural guides are provided in the form of worksheets, and it is shown how the skills to be acquired are assessed.

• Create text documents using automatic templates, styles, references and indexes, and custom mail merge tools.
• Create multimedia presentations using good communication principles.
• Searching the WWW, collecting, archiving and analysing data in information managers and spreadsheet tables.
• Produce, select and edit photographs and texts for publication.
• Know tourist activity specific applications’ terminology and basic functionalities.
• Interact effectively with Turismo de Portugal professional portal.

Types of Assessment

Assessment is carried out through "continuous assessment" during the academic term, or through "examination assessment" during the examination period [article 14 of the Academic Regulations].

Observations:

• Hereafter, references to normative articles refer to the "Academic Regulations of the 1st Cycle of Studies of the Higher School of Agriculture of Coimbra" of September 3, 2025.
• Assessment tests are conducted exclusively on a computer. Assessment is individual, designed to measure competence in the efficient resolution of problems through the application of procedures demonstrated and practiced in class.

Assessment during the academic term

Conditions for Passing Continuous Assessment in this Course Unit

• There is no minimum attendance requirement in the classes taught as a condition for passing [§ 2 of article 17], however, attendance is recorded.
• A minimum grade of 8 points on a scale of 0 to 20 is required for each assessment instrument [§ 3 of article 17].
• The right of students who have not passed continuous assessment to partial exemption in any of the exam periods [no. 7 of article 17] refers to the total grade of each assessment instrument, provided that it is equal to or higher than the minimum grade of 8 points.

Assessment instruments: weighting, description, criteria

• Practical test on technical competence in word processing [§ b) of article 16]. Score: 0 to 6.
• Practical test on technical competence in spreadsheets [§ b) of article 16]. Score: 0 to 6.
• Project work for the implementation of attendance sheets [§ b) of article 16]. Score: 0 to 8.
• Individual participation [§ a) of article 16]: Attendance, punctuality, and participation in classes are valued [no. 1 of article 12] with bonuses in the final grade (up to a maximum of 20 points): 20% for fewer than three absences or 10% for fewer than five absences. Lack of punctuality, negative participation, or misuse of electronic devices are considered absences, cumulatively, if they continue after a warning. Justification for absence does not constitute physical presence in the class activity.

Observations:

• The schedule for 1) and 2) will be proposed and agreed upon with the students during the first two weeks of classes, along with the dissemination of the criteria.
• The result of each assessment is only counted if the student is present for the entire class.
• Tests and worksheets are conducted on the ESAC e-learning platform and may be made available in paper form upon justified request.

• Single, practical exam [§ f) of article 16]
• For students who can and wish to benefit from partial exemption [§ 7 of article 17], tests are available to replace attendance assessment instruments from which they cannot or do not wish to be exempted.

Clarification: In situations of partial exemption, partial grades obtained in one examination period are not transferable to the next.
