Production and Sport Animal Nursing

Prior approval is recommended for the curricular units of Production Animals and Equines, Concepts of Semiology, Concepts of Pharmacology and Infectious and Parasitic Diseases.

Theoretical exposition classes.

 Demonstrations by the teachers of therapeutic practices in animals from the livestock farm at ESAC.

 Execution of therapeutic practices by the students, under the supervision and guidance of the teachers in the animals of ESAC.

 Visits to livestock farms, of different animal species, with the aim of assisting and participating in various therapeutic and prophylactic practices.

The objectives of this Curricular Unit include learning a set of knowledge related to nursing care to be provided to different species of production animals and horses, related to veterinary care.

Continuous evaluation:

 Continuous assessment will be carried out throughout the class period and will be divided into 2 components:

•  Component 1 - component 1, will have a weight of 67% of the final grade and will be subject to two written assessment instruments (T1 and T2), each with a weight of 50% in the final grade of the component, on the subjects taught in theoretical and practical classes.

• Component 2 - component 2, will have a weight of 33% of the final gradeand will be subject to one written assessment instrument (T3), with a weight of 100% in the final grade of the component, on the subjects taught in theoretical and practical classes.

The student is approved by continuous assessment, when he has met the minimum amount of attendance in classes (75% for each type of class) and cumulatively with the following conditions:

1. classification of each of the assessment instruments (T1, T2, T3) greater than or equal to 7.5 values;
2. weighted average of components classifications equal to or greater than 9.5 values.

The student's classification will be obtained by the following formula: (T1*0,5+T2*0,5)*0,67+T3*0,33.

 In each academic year, a student who does not pass a continuous assessment has access to assessment by final exam at the time specified in the academic calendar.

 Final exam assessment:

•  the assessment in exam will consist of a theoretical and practical exam of each of the respective components, with equal weight in the final grade to what was attributed by evaluation in frequency.

The assessment conditions in the exam, normal, appeal and special seasons, are described in the regulation for assessing the performance of students at the Escola Superior Agrária de Coimbra, ref: RG_RAAE, of 26-07-2013 and other applicable legislation.
