To achieve the objectives of the curricular unit and the foreseen competences to students, the teaching-learning process is based on:

1. In theoretical-practical classes in which the teacher transmits theoretical concepts, followed by practical application by the student;
2. In practical classes held at the ESAC Exploration where the student accompanies different cultures and where he performs the main cultural practices.
3. Preparation of field work, with observation and discussion, aiming at structuring and applying the acquired knowledge.

It is intended that students acquire knowledge about the characteristics of production and the respective cultural techniques applied in ornamental cultures, acquiring relevant information for the Green Spaces and understanding the respective cultural techniques.

It is intended that students optimize the factors that affect the productivity and quality of cut flowers, potted plants and economically most important garden plants, modifying propagation and production methods.

They must know how to choose trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants for ornamental use depending on their ecology, ornamental characteristics and cost.

It is also intended that the student acquire the ability to prepare, in a simple way, an intensive production plan of ornamental crops and the installation and maintenance of a garden or a sports lawn.

Continuous evaluation:

Continuous assessment requires the student to attend at least 75% of the classes taught and consists of:
- 2 written tests that assess theoretical-practical content – 50% (25% each)
- Evaluation of two reports of practical work carried out - 50% (25% each)

Final exam assessment:

The written exam includes all the contents taught and practical tests carried out on cultural operations.

Approval in the Curricular Unit depends on obtaining a minimum grade of 9.5 in the final classification
