Horticulture and Crops without Soil

Not required.

In order to achieve the objectives of the curricular unit and the competences provided to students, the teaching-learning process is based on:

1. In theoretical-practical classes in which the teacher transmits theoretical concepts, followed by practical application by the student;
2. In practical classes held in Horta da ESAC where the student accompanies the different cultures and performs the main cultural practices;
3. Preparation of field work, with observation and discussion, aiming at structuring and applying the acquired knowledge;
4. Preparation of a report on the study visit to an outdoor and greenhouse horticulture company with different types of production.

1. Know the concept of horticulture and its relevance in the economic and food context;
2. Know families and vegetable species;
3. Know different vegetable production systems;
4. Understand and apply vegetable propagation techniques;
5. Know how to install vegetable crops;
6. Perform maintenance tasks in greenhouse and outdoor horticulture.

1. Identification of horticultural plants and seeds;
2. Planning of outdoor and greenhouse horticultural crops;
3. Methods of plant propagation;
4. Implantation of vegetable crops outdoors and in greenhouses;
5. Technologies for installing and maintaining vegetables with and without soil.

Continuous evaluation:
Continuous assessment requires the student to attend at least 75% of the classes taught and consists of:
- 2 written tests that assess theoretical-practical contents - 70% (50% - test 1 and 20% - test 2);
- Evaluation of field work report carried out - 20%;
- Evaluation of the study visit report to the reference farm – 10%.

Final exam assessment:
The written exam includes all the contents taught and practical tests carried out on cultural operations.
