Teaching Methodologies
Teaching is done using active learning techniques, case studies and practical work. Theoretical knowledge is conveyed in lectures and other classes centered on the Student. The themes are then explored using practical group work, the results of which are presented to colleagues.
Learning Results
1. To understand the fundamental notions of Histology, Anatomy, and Physiology that allow the description and holistically understanding of the human body;
2. To know the different types of pathologies and disorders associated with posture and movement;
3. To identify the different types of technical aids / support products that prevent / minimize pathologies / disorders associated with posture and movement.
Program
Module 1: Human Histology and Anatomy
1. Histology: main differentiating characteristics of the various tissues.
2. Anatomy: skeletal, joint, muscular and nervous systems
Module 2: Human Physiology and Pathophysiology
3.1. Physiology of Movement
a) Skeletal muscle properties.
b) Muscle contraction. Contraction mechanisms.
c) Neuromuscular junction.
3.2. Neuro-musculoskeletal conditions.
3.3. Postural tone.
4. Pathologies and disorders associated with posture and movement.
5. Technical Aids / Support Products
6. Accessibility

Maria Amélia Moreira da Silva Diegues RamosGrading Methods
The final grade of the UC results from the evaluation of two Modules: Module 1 (M1) evaluates Histology and Human Anatomy knowledge (50%) and Module 2 (M2) evaluates Human Physiology and Pathophysiology knowledge (50%).
Each module evaluation includes: an individual written test (WT), where the theoretical and practical content taught (50%); group work (GW) performed during classes (40%), and attendance and participation ( AP) (10%) (Mark of each module mark = 50% * WT + 40% * GW + 10% * AP).
The grade given to group work results from the assessment carried out by teachers, with a weight of two thirds, and the average of the grades given by groups of students (self and hetero-assessment), with a weight of one third.
To pass by continuous assessment, besides the minimum of 75% of attendances in effectively taught classes, cumulatively requires that:
a) in each Module, a minimum of 7.5 values is needed;
b) the weighted average of the two Modules should be equal or higher than 9.5 values.
In summary, the calculation expression of the course final grade (FG) will be:
FG = 50% M1 + 50% M2.
Students who have been assessed by continuous assessment may be exempted from the final exam:
a) total exemption, if approved;
b) partial exemption, to the Module (s) in which they obtained a minimum classification of 7.5 values.
Assessment in final exam
When approval is not obtained by continuous assessment, the student has access to a final written exam. The exam will evaluate knowledge acquired in both modules with the same percentage.
