Teaching Methodologies

To achieve the objectives of the course unit and the conference of the expected competences, the teaching learning process is based on the organization of the contents to be taught, structured in theoretical-practical classes, the realization of a significant field work and the development of the report carried out in group and with a certain autonomy. Some works of the project are carried out using Geographic Information Systems software (GIS)

Learning Results

The objectives of the course unit involve the acquisition of 3 fundamental skills: 1 – Knows and uses the measuring instruments in forest inventory; 2 – Knows and applies the most used methods of sampling in forest inventory, floristic and faunistic, knows some indicators of sustainability (biodiversity); 3 – Know the application of remote sensing in forest ineventory; 4 – Applies the knowledge acquired in a concrete exercise in the field, integrating the various types of inventory.

Program

The programmatic content for the acquisition of the 3 described competences is divided in two learning modules: Module 1 – Study of the methods of data collection in the context of forest, floristic and faunistic inventories; Module 2 – Development of a project of inventory of natural resources in the field and elaboration of the respective report.

Grading Methods

Continuous Assessment:
- Module 1, completion of a theoretical/practical test with a weighting of 35%, and a minimum grade of 7.5 values. Participation in classes will have a value of 15% of the grade of this module.
- Module 2, with a weighting of 50%, is carried out with the project that culminates in the production of a report and its presentation and discussion, and the minimum grade of 7.5 values.

Assessment by Examination:
Assessment by examination includes a theoretical/practical part with a weighting of 50 per cent and an exclusively practical part with a weighting of 50 per cent. The student will be successful if they obtain a minimum final mark of 9.5, where the mark in any of the components can never be less than 7.5 values.
