The classes will be theoretical-practical based on the exposition and discussion of the contents of the program and on solving practical examples. We will emphasize a practical work applied to a task in the area of ​​horse management and organic production, resulting from research work developed through the semester in class. We will try to promote a dialogue process in which everyone participates, according to their own experience and knowledge as well as their studied cases. The tutorial classes will be a support to do a practical work, done by groups of 3 students at least and 4 at most, in their working hours (contact and others), which will be submitted to analysis and discussion by the students in the class.

Learning results will be evaluated in a formative and in a summative way through the development of a technical itinerary project for creating and using a product and a written test.

Health and Safety at Work has as goal promote the prevention of occupational risks and the defense of workers’ health. It is intended that students, after taking the U.C classes, have acquired skills with regard to the evaluation of professional risks, the management and control of those risks and the establishment and implementation of safety procedures.

1. Basic concepts of Safety and Health at Work: fundaments, legal framework;

2.General risks and their prevention: identification of risk factors, evaluation criteria, elementary risk control systems, collective and individual protection;

3. Specific risks and their prevention by sector of activity;

4. Safety and Hygiene Plans. Safety procedure sheets.

Assessment and conditions for approval.

The conditions for admission to the assessment and approval in this UC are those contained in the "Regulation for the Assessment of the Performance of ESAC Students", available at www.esac.pt/alunosregulamentos, namely in relation to obtaining the value of the approval classification (equal or higher than 9.5 on a scale of 0 to 20)

Assessment during the period of classes (continuos assessment)

 The assessment presupposes the accomplishment of: an exam (worth 60%) and the execution and discussion of a work related to a methodology of risk assessment in work accidents (worth 40%).

The student's final grade, in continuous assessment, will be obtained by the result of the following expression: Final grade for continuous assessment = 0.60 x Written test + 0.20 x Group work + 0.20 x Presentation and discussion of group work.

Assessment in final exam (normal season and special season)

The grade in the final exam is obtained by doing a theoretical exam, and students who have not been approved in the continuos assessment and whose attendance has been equal to or higher than 75% can reuse grades achieved in the practical work, as long as they communicate their intention to the teacher before the delivery of the exam.

Assessment to improve the grade

In the exam for grade improvement the students can’t reuse grades previously obtained in practical work.
