Teaching Methodologies

Classes are supported by presentations, lecturer notes and discussion of case studies. Depending on the type of content taught, practical classes will be held in the field or in the machine hangar to learn about and implement some of the techniques studied.

Learning Results

  • Learn about the main techniques applied in organic farming.
  • Study the principles and methods of organic agricultural production, including soil tillage and sustainable cultural techniques applied to plant production.
  • Learn about integrated pest and disease control cultural practices.
  • Adapt cultural techniques to soil conditions, climate, land structure and socio-economic situation in sustainable agricultural production systems.
  • Know the principles and techniques associated with regenerative agriculture and agroforestry systems.

Program

1. Organic crop production

  • Crop rotation and tillage planning. The role and impact of these practices on soil fertility and sustainability;
  • Cultivation techniques: soil tillage, crop establishment (sowing, planting and transplanting), irrigation and drainage, harvesting and ecological crop management;
  • Protected crops (greenhouses and tunnels): environmental conditioning techniques;
  • Selection and management of varieties adapted to the organic system.

2. Environmental and Social Impacts of Organic Production

  • Organic farming’s contribution to mitigating climate change;
  • Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development.
