Base Knowledge

For a more fruitful learning of the programmatic contents of the curricular unit and the objectives and skills to be developed within its scope, constitute recommended basic knowledge those related to the following previous degree curricular units:

– Financial Mathematics (Financial Calculus)
– Statistics Applied to Business Sciences
– Introduction to Financial Institutions Management

Teaching Methodologies

After a detailed theoretical framework of the subjects, a teaching method with a high practical component is privileged, supported by the realization of small pedagogical exercises, some of them carried out using an Excel sheet, and the discussion (brainstorming) and resolution by students of real examples related to the different topics of the program.

Learning Results

The main objetives o this curricular unit are:

  1. Understand the key characteristics of the different types of financial markets.
  2. Introduce the basic evaluation models of the financial investments traded in those markets.
  3. Introduce the basic principles of portfolio management.

Within the scope of this curricular unit, students should attain the following skills:

  1. Know how to identify the characteristics of the different types of financial markets, the main participants operating in them, and the most recent trends in their development.
  2. Build efficient portfolios of financial assets.
  3. Know how to calculate the value of a fixed or variable-income security
  4. Understand the main factors that could affect the price over time.
  5. Understand the relevance and know how to identify and use key macroeconomic and industry indicators in the construction and management of a portfolio of financial assets.
