This curricular unit has an underlying scientific or more applied nature, aiming to encourage initiative, autonomy in research and the application of acquired knowledge, decision-making and work organization on the part of the master’s student (Article 25 of the Regulation of the 2nd Cycle of Studies at CBS|ISCAC).

Its main objective is the development of a research work in one of the scientific areas of the Master in Accounting and Business Taxation.

With this work, it is intended that students develop skills in research, systematic analysis and critical thinking, in scientific writing and communication, and technical skills in the topic addressed.

Development of the study proposed in the work plan prepared under the supervision of the supervisor, assessed by the Master’s Technical-Scientific Committee, and approved by the Technical-Scientific Council.

For exemplification, the following topics will be analysed and discussed in the scientific work:

I – Introduction and literature review

II – Identification and characterization of the research problem

III – General and specific objectives

IV – Literature review

V – Methodology

i)  Quantitative approach

ii) Qualitative approach

iii) Normative and legal approach

VI – Research ethics

In accordance with the Academic Regulation of the 2nd Cycle of Studies of the Polytechnic of Coimbra, public exam are the public act of defending the dissertation. The same regulation establishes the rules and procedures of this exam.
