Expository classes with a practical component for solving exercises.

Learning Results

Planning and executing a research project. Its objective is to provide the necessary tools and foundations for the successful completion of the work that students will have to carry out in their profession and within the scope of their disciplines and Master’s dissertation. Additionally, it aims to review concepts of data analysis and statistics.

By achieving the objectives of this course and acquiring the expected skills, the student will be able to:

• Develop the ability to read and comprehend texts in the relevant technical and scientific areas.

• Enhance the capacity for written and oral expression in specialized contexts.

• Enrich the lexicon of specific terminologies.

• Conduct research, analyze data, and prepare reports.

• Foster critical thinking through self-assessment and peer assessment practices.

Program

Module 1: Communication

1.1 Reading and decoding specialized texts.
1.2 General notions of research.
1.3 Structuring and elaborating scientific reports.
1.4 Understanding plagiarism and creating citations.
1.5 Creating bibliographies.
1.6 Communication techniques for presenting work.

Module 2: Data Analysis

2.1 Methodologies and research design.
2.2 Sampling techniques.
2.3 Data collection. The questionnaire as an information gathering instrument.
2.4 Data analysis techniques with SPSS
2.4.1 Descriptive statistics.
2.4.2 Parametric tests.
2.4.3 Regression analysis.

Grading Methods


Assessment distributed throughout the semester:


Module 1
Evaluation: Mandatory written test.
Weight: 20 points

Module 2
Evaluation: Resolution of exercises proposed during classes (50%) and mandatory written test covering the course material (50%). The written test will be conducted in the last class of the module.
Weight: 20 points

Requirement: Minimum grade of 5 out of 20 points in both Module 1 and Module 2.

The final grade is the arithmetic average of the grades obtained in both modules. The student will pass if the final grade is equal to or greater than 9.5 points and if the defined requirement is met.

In case of failure and if the student wishes, any positive grade obtained through the assessment distributed throughout the semester can be retained, and only the module with a negative grade will be reevaluated in the exam.

Final assessment:


Written exam consisting of two sections, corresponding to each of the taught modules.
